Dr Edwin Hillier is a Composition Professor at the Royal College of Music (RCM), where he also serves as module leader for postgraduate and undergraduate Musical Analysis courses. Concurrently, he works as a Teaching Associate in Music Composition at the University of Nottingham. A graduate of the University of Cambridge (MA Cantab) and the RCM (MComp, DMus), Hillier explores timbre through both acoustic and electronic composition, drawing inspiration from visual artists like Alberto Burri, Cy Twombly, and Alan Davie to create visceral, human-centric sonic experiences.
His works have been performed globally by ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, and Talea Ensemble, with presentations at festivals including Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Royaumont Festival. Recordings of his music have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and France Musique and released on the NMC Record Label. He received his doctorate in 2021 under Jonathan Cole after private study with Rebecca Saunders in Berlin.
