Dr David Eldridge is a Senior Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Hull, affiliated with the School of The Arts within the Faculty of Arts Cultures and Education. His research focuses on cultural history, film studies, LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports, and queer studies. He has published extensively on topics such as Hollywood censorship, unproduced films, and the cultural history of the 1930s. Eldridge co-founded an LGBTQ+ inclusive sports team and leads projects addressing barriers to LGBTQ+ participation in sports. His teaching includes courses on American film, queer studies, and contemporary culture.
Recent research explores censorship's impact on Hollywood's historical narratives and LGBTQ+ inclusion strategies in sports. He has secured grants from the Arts & Humanities Research Council and Wellcome Trust, among others, funding projects like HIKE: SAFER and Overcoming Barriers to LGBTQ+ Participation. Eldridge collaborates with organizations to develop applied drama interventions for inclusive environments. His work bridges academic research with community engagement, emphasizing marginalized voices in culture and sport.
