Dr Lucy Fielding is a Lecturer in Drama and Theatre Practice at the University of Hull's School of The Arts. Her work focuses on applied theatre initiatives addressing LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sports and menopause awareness. She co-directed the play 'Safer' in partnership with LGBTQ+ rugby club Hull Roundheads, touring nationally to combat exclusion in sports. Current projects include the Menopaus’ull initiative with the Neighbourhood Network, using performance to highlight menopause experiences. She holds a PhD on Vsevolod Meyerhold's biomechanics in modern actor training.
Education: PhD in Theatre/Drama (Meyerhold's biomechanics), MA and BA in Performance Studies.
Research interests include applied theatre in education, LGBTQ+ rights in sports, and actor training innovations. She leads workshops on inclusion topics and supervises PhDs in Applied Theatre. Recent grants include £15,468 from AHRC for the 'SAFER' sports inclusion project (2023-ongoing) and Wellcome Trust funding for LGBTQ+ sports access initiatives (2021-2022).
Her projects combine performance with community engagement to address societal issues, such as creating safe spaces for young people to discuss exclusion and toxicity in sports environments through 'Safer's school outreach program.
