David Dyke is a Senior Lecturer in Robotics Engineering and Automation at the Department of Computing, Staffordshire University. Previously, he held positions at the University of Birmingham, University of Wolverhampton, and served as an External Examiner at Sheffield Hallam University (2014–2019) and Teesside University/MDIS Singapore (from 2019). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), and Fellow of the HEA (FHEA).
He earned his BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (1993) and PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (1997) from the University of Birmingham, followed by a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship there until 1999. Additional qualifications include a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2002).
His research interests focus on the social implications of technology and technology-society interactions, alongside technical areas like control engineering, signal processing, robotics, and AI/ML applications in engineering systems. He has supervised PhDs in AI/ML for object detection and power systems design, and actively invites candidates researching AI/ML in control and engineering contexts.
He has led numerous international collaborations, including KTP projects and National HE STEM Programme initiatives, and managed the Engineering Provision at Asia Pacific University (Malaysia) until 2019. His professional roles include IET Academic Accreditor since 2015, reviewing and accrediting engineering programs at institutions like the University of South Wales, Edinburgh Napier, and Coventry University. He has also contributed to curriculum development for overseas engineering programs in Sri Lanka and Singapore.
