David Durand-Delacre is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia's Department of Geography within the Faculty of Arts. He is temporarily based at UBC from the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) from November 18, 2024, to November 17, 2025. His work bridges human geography, critical migration studies, and climate change research through mobilities studies and geographies of knowledge.
Research interests include:
- Political and epistemological controversies in climate migration
- Knowledge translation between academia, policy, and practice
- Planned relocation and climate adaptation strategies
- Media representations of climate mobilities
- Non-conventional knowledge dissemination methods (serious games, workshops)
Recent publications analyze epistemic mobilities, planned relocation tensions, and climate funding effectiveness. He serves as a co-editor for the Critical Climate (Im)mobilities Glossary and co-convenor of the Environmental and Climate Migration Network's media workstream. Advisory roles include a Fijian youth climate documentary and the Platform on Disaster Displacement.
Prior to UBC, he worked as a Senior Researcher at UNU-EHS (2023–present) and an analyst for the UN Sustainable Development Network (2015–2016). He also led volunteering efforts for Réfugiés Bienvenue in Paris (2017–2018).
