Ellen Pond

Ellen Pond is a Lecturer and Co-Chair in the School of Horticulture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), Faculty of Science, with prior service as Chair in Policy Studies, Faculty of Arts. Since joining KPU in 2015, she teaches upper-level courses in community planning, landscape systems, and climate crisis solutions within the Bachelor of Horticulture Science and Urban Ecosystems degree programs.

Education:

• Master of Landscape Architecture (M.L.A.) from University of British Columbia (UBC)
• Bachelor of Arts in Geography from University of British Columbia (UBC)
• Red Seal Carpenter certification from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)

Research Interests: Ellen's work centers on community planning and engagement, climate policy, and knowledge mobilization, with critical focus on intersections between climate/biodiversity crises, decolonization, and equity. She designs collaboratively developed solutions for societal change through landscape architecture and community-based climate planning, including climate change visualization techniques.

Advising and Grants: Ellen mentors students through her Urban Ecosystems degree program courses and co-founded KPU's Climate+ Challenge initiative. She led Environment and Climate Change Canada's Canadian Centre for Climate Services training team, developing tailored climate learning tools for public health organizations and Indigenous communities.

Labs and Teams: She co-founded the Climate+ Challenge at KPU and directed the Training team at the Canadian Centre for Climate Services, focusing on practical climate data application for diverse user groups.
