David Diop is a University Lecturer and Researcher in 19th Century Literature at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA), where he works within the College of Human and Social Sciences. He gained international recognition as the author of the critically acclaimed novel Frère d’âme, a finalist for France’s top literary awards: Goncourt, Médicis, Renaudot, and Femina. His academic research focuses on European representations of Africa and Africans in 17th-18th century travel narratives, and he has explored the exploitation of these representations in World War I propaganda regarding West-African soldiers.
Diop co-created the Heptaméron de la Nouvelle award to engage high school students with literary studies through creative writing. His work bridges academic research and literary practice, emphasizing the stylistic interplay between teaching and creative writing in humanities education.
