Darieck B. Scott

Darieck B. Scott is a Professor in the Department of African American Studies and African Diaspora Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University, an M.A. in African American Studies, and a J.D. from Yale University. His research focuses on 20th/21st century African American literature, queer theory, LGBTQ+ studies, and representations of race, gender, and sexuality in fantasy, science fiction, and comics.

His work bridges literary analysis with cultural studies, examining how marginalized identities are portrayed in speculative genres. Notable publications include *Keeping it Unreal* (2022), which explores Black queer fantasy, and *Extravagant Abjection* (2010), awarded the MLA Alan Bray Prize. He co-edited the acclaimed *Queer About Comics* special issue (2018), recognized as Best Special Issue of 2018 by MLA.

Awards include the Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ+ Studies and a Locus Award Finalist nod. His creative works include novels *Hex* and *Traitor to the Race*, and edited anthologies like *Best Black Gay Erotica*.
