- Ph.D., Ohio State University
Dr. Kim's research explores the intersections of global Anglophone literature with a focus on 18th- and 19th-century poetics and aesthetics. Her work investigates how cultural difference shapes literary production, particularly examining what she terms a "poetics of orientation" in Romantic literature. She also conducts significant research on Asian American representations, Korean history, and U.S. foreign policy, with her next book project "The Yellow Nineteenth Century" tracing Asian American culture through print history.
Her scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with themes of cultural representation, Orientalism, and the formation of identity across time. Kim's work bridges historical literary analysis with contemporary social issues, particularly examining how nineteenth-century literary formations continue to shape modern conceptions of race, gender, and cultural difference. Her publications demonstrate expertise in both traditional literary scholarship and public-facing writing that addresses current events.
- 2022 Ohioana Book Award finalist for Poetry (for "Body Facts")

Her creative and scholarly work has been widely published in venues ranging from academic journals like Essays in Romanticism and Nineteenth-Century Gender Studies to public platforms like the Los Angeles Review of Books and Shondaland.
As both a scholar and creative writer, Dr. Kim maintains an active presence in literary communities, participating in readings, workshops, and public discussions about Asian American literature, Romanticism, and contemporary social issues. Her dual focus on academic scholarship and creative production creates a unique interdisciplinary approach to literary studies.
