David Desimpelaere

David Desimpelaere is a Professor of Double Bass at the Lucerne School of Music (HSLU) since 2023, where he also serves as part of the Institute of Classical and Church Music. He holds a prominent role as Principal Double Bassist of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester since 2019. Prior to this, he served as Principal Double Bassist with the 'Orchestra della Svizzera italiana' and 'Brussels Philharmonic', and has guest-performed with renowned ensembles such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra.

He teaches at the School of Arts Gent since 2019 and actively engages in solo and chamber music performances. His work in contemporary music has inspired several composers to create new works for double bass, with premieres staged in prestigious venues. His educational background includes studies under Rinat Ibragimov at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) and Bozo Paradzik at the Musikhochschule Freiburg.

Research & Performance: Desimpelaere's interests span classical repertoire interpretation, new music commissions, and pedagogical approaches to double bass performance. He maintains an active social media presence showcasing his work on YouTube and Spotify.
