Malachy Robinson is a Lecturer in Double Bass and Historical Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), affiliated with the Strings department. He holds a Master's in historical musicology from the University of London and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with the Dove Memorial Prize. His expertise spans Early music, Contemporary music, and Chamber music performance.
- Orchestral Roles: Principal bass with the Irish Chamber Orchestra (since 1995), bassist and resident conductor of Crash Ensemble, and member of the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
- Teaching: Leads the Master's programme in String Chamber Music at University of Limerick, tutors Dublin Youth Orchestras, and coaches National Youth Orchestra/Concorda Summer School.
Recordings include The Irish Double Bass (2021) featuring contemporary works composed for him, and collaborations with orchestras since 1995. He also performs viola da gamba in early music contexts.
