David Dana is the Kirkland & Ellis Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs: Faculty and Research at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He holds a courtesy appointment as Professor of Real Estate at the Kellogg School of Management. His expertise spans environmental law, property law, intellectual property, and professional responsibility. Prior to academia, he practiced environmental litigation at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering and the U.S. Department of Justice. He directs the Program on Sustainability and Food and Animal Law.
- Education: BA summa cum laude (Harvard University), JD magna cum laude (Harvard Law School)
- Professional Experience: Attorney at U.S. Department of Justice (1991–1993), Associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (1989–1991)
His research focuses on climate change adaptation, emerging technologies’ environmental impacts, foreclosure crises, and legal ethics. He has taught at Boston University and held visiting roles at Harvard and Virginia.
Consulting & Grants: Consulted on legal ethics in Enron litigation and pro bono environmental projects. Active in regulatory reform and APEC initiatives.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Program on Sustainability and Food and Animal Law, integrating interdisciplinary approaches to environmental and legal challenges.
