Dr. David Chorney is a Full Professor in the Department of Secondary Education at the University of Alberta, specializing in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), curriculum development, and technology integration. He holds a PhD, M.Ed., B.Ed., and B.A., and has been recognized nationally for teaching excellence, including the Rutherford Award for Undergraduate Teaching (2014). His research emphasizes physical literacy, outdoor education, and the role of technology in enhancing physical education.
Dr. Chorney has secured over $600,000 in research funding and authored over 25 refereed articles, 22 non-refereed articles, and multiple book chapters. He has supervised 4 graduate students and teaches courses such as EDSE 548 (Conceptualizing Physical Education) and EDSE 347/348 (Physical Education Curriculum). His work includes developing the 'Any Age Fitness' app and advocating for outdoor risky play through the 2015 Position Statement on Active Outdoor Play.
