Dr. David Bassett is a Lecturer in Healthcare Technologies at the University of Birmingham's School of Chemical Engineering and an active member of the Healthcare Technologies Institute (HTI). His research bridges human biology and materials science, focusing on inorganic mineral formation and prevention mechanisms, with applications in biomaterials for regenerative medicine, nanostructured inorganic synthesis, and 3D cell-based tissue models.
He holds a PhD in Biomedical Materials Science from McGill University (2011) and a BMecSc (Hons) from the University of Birmingham (2004). His interdisciplinary work involves collaboration across chemical engineering, biomedical science, computer science, and physics within the HTI.
Bassett’s scientific leadership includes serving as Vice President of the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials. He has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for journals like Advanced Materials and Acta Biomaterialia.
