Dr. David Babb is a Researcher at the University of Manitoba's Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, affiliated with the Centre for Earth Observation Science. He holds a B.Sc. (2010) and M.Sc. (2014) in Physical Geography from the University of Manitoba and is a Ph.D. Candidate (2024) with a focus on Arctic sea ice dynamics. His work bridges geophysics and ecology, leveraging remote sensing and field observations to study sea ice processes.
Research interests include sea ice thermodynamics, atmospheric-ocean coupling, and Arctic marine systems. He emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration to address climate change impacts on ecosystems and human activities. Awards include the 2024 NSERC CGS-D and CMOS Supplements.
Teaching includes coordinating GEOG 7440 (Climate Change and the Arctic Marine System, 2015–2022). His recent publications (2022–2024) focus on sea ice transport, multiyear ice loss, and polar bear habitat vulnerability under climate scenarios. Key methods include satellite data (Sentinel-1, CryoSat-2) and field sensor networks for ice characterization.
