David Aikman is Professor of Finance at King's Business School, King's College London, and Director of the Qatar Centre for Global Banking and Finance, having joined in April 2020 after 17 years at the Bank of England where he served as Technical Head of Division in the Financial Stability Strategy and Risk Directorate.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Economics, University of Warwick
His research specializes in financial stability and macroprudential policy, examining the interplay between monetary policy tools and financial regulation. Key contributions analyze credit cycle dynamics, systemic risk measurement through GDP-at-Risk frameworks, and the macroeconomic implications of trust in central banking institutions. His work bridges historical policy analysis (e.g., UK Radcliffe Report era) with contemporary challenges like supply shock transmission and economic scarring.
Recent publications demonstrate a methodological shift toward quantifying institutional trust and its macroeconomic effects, while maintaining focus on policy-relevant financial stability metrics. This evolution reflects growing emphasis on behavioral dimensions within traditional central banking frameworks.
Leadership: As Director of the Qatar Centre for Global Banking and Finance, he oversees research addressing global banking stability and regulatory innovation.
