معرفی
David Abrego is a Researcher at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and affiliated with James Cook University. His work focuses on coral symbiosis and ecosystem resilience in the face of climate change. He completed his PhD at AIMS/JCU, studying the flexibility of coral-Symbiodinium symbiosis and its implications for future reef survival.
Education: Earned a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Bette Willis and Dr. Madeleine van Oppen, explored physiological attributes of coral symbiont combinations to understand future symbiotic dynamics.
Research Interests: Investigates marine microbiology, coral reef ecology, and climate change impacts. Focuses on inter-kingdom communication within coral holobionts and microbial interactions driving reef resilience. Bridges fundamental biology with applied conservation strategies.
Recent Work: Key findings include coral genomics studies and analyses of climate change's socioeconomic impacts on fisheries and vulnerable communities, highlighted in 2022 media releases.
Affiliations: Member of AIMS' 'Understanding Marine Microbes and Symbioses' team, concentrating on coral holobiont interactions. Previously part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies until its closure in 2022.
