Dave Schroeder is a Professor of Jazz Studies at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. He holds a Doctor of Arts from NYU, a Master of Music from New England Conservatory, and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Schroeder is a multi-reed instrumentalist, composer, historian, and author, known for his books on jazz musicians and his work with the NYU Jazz Interview Series and NYU JazzCast podcast. He has performed with icons like Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder, and led the Combo Nuvo ensemble in global performances.
As former Chair of NYU’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, Schroeder emphasized experiential learning, leveraging NYC’s jazz venues for student opportunities. His One World Suite project merges music with climate activism, featuring audience-participatory harmonica performances. Recent works include the composition Stand for Change, recorded by Vanessa Williams, and collaborations with orchestras in Costa Rica, UAE, and Mongolia.
His research bridges jazz pedagogy, music history, and social advocacy. Schroeder’s career spans academic leadership, artistic innovation, and community engagement, reflected in over a million followers across digital platforms.
