Daryl F. Dwyer

Daryl F. Dwyer is an Associate Professor of Ecology in the Department of Environmental Sciences within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Toledo. He serves as Director of the Stranahan Arboretum and is a Resident Faculty Member at the Lake Erie Center. With a Ph.D. from Michigan State University (1986), his academic background includes an M.A. from State University of New York at Buffalo and a B.S. from Wilkes College.

Dr. Dwyer's research focuses on environmental microbiology, bioremediation, phytoremediation, natural attenuation, and microbial physiology and genetics. His work centers on modeling and understanding soil-water-plant interactions with sustainable design as a remediation goal for restoring degraded sites. Key research projects include treatment wetland design for heavy metal removal, evapotranspiration landfill covers for leachate control, and pathogen transport modeling at Lake Erie swimming beaches.

His publication record spans from 1982 to 2024, with recent work emphasizing cyanobacterial blooms in Lake Erie, microcystin exposure risks, nutrient management, and phytoremediation techniques.
