Professor Daron Burrows is a Professor of Medieval French and Fellow of St Peter’s College at the University of Oxford. He holds the position of Director of Research in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. His academic journey includes undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Trinity College, Oxford, followed by a lectureship at the University of Manchester before returning to Oxford in 2013. His research focuses on Old French and Anglo-Norman literature, with specialisms in text editing, manuscript studies, and marginal texts. He actively contributes to scholarly societies like the Anglo-Norman Text Society and serves on editorial and advisory boards for academic journals and projects.
Education: BA (French and German) from Trinity College, Oxford (1995); M.St. and D.Phil. in French Studies, Trinity College, Oxford (1998).
Research Interests: Burrows’ work explores comic/satirical texts, hagiography, Apocalypse materials, codicology, and the lives of early philologists. He emphasizes understudied texts such as Coronation orders, dance terminology, and anthropomorphic fables. His recent projects include critical editions of the Anglo-Norman Verse Psalter and studies of medieval manuscripts.
Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles and books, including the award-winning La Vie de seint Clement (2011) and The Stereotype of the Priest in the Old French Fabliaux (2005). Current works involve editing the Anglo-Norman Verse Psalter and digitizing illustrated manuscripts.
Awards: Recipient of the 2011 Prix De La Grange for scholarly excellence. His academic work is supported by interests in physical fitness and extreme metal music.
