Dr Clive Sneddon is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of History, University of St Andrews, specializing in Medieval translation studies, historical linguistics, and the emergence of vernacular languages. He holds a BA and DPhil in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford, with a focus on French and German.
His research explores translation as a cultural and linguistic phenomenon in the Middle Ages, particularly the creation of literacy through vernacular texts. Key interests include Old and Middle French literature, corpus linguistics, and the sociolinguistic evolution of medieval French.
Dr Sneddon has authored or co-authored over a dozen publications, including a special issue on Medieval Translation (1999) and works on the Old French Bible (2002). His research has been supported by grants, notably a project on the Glossed Anglo-Norman Apocalypse (2008–2009).
