Darina Svobodova holds a dual role as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague, Czech Republic, and a part-time PhD researcher at the University of Surrey's Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management department. Her research focuses on attracting and retaining gig workers in the UK hospitality industry.
Education: She earned a Bachelor’s (2005) and Master’s (2008) in Hotel Management, Tourism, and Gastronomy from her home institute, alongside an Advanced Diploma in Leisure Retail Management (2008) from Nottingham Business School, UK.
With over 20 years of professional experience spanning hotel management, gastronomy, events, and tourism across the UK, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Spain, and Tunisia, her expertise bridges academia and industry. Research interests include sustainability and wellbeing in visitor economies, and competitiveness strategies in tourism sectors. She actively contributes to the Sustainability and Wellbeing in the Visitor Economy Research Group.
