Danny Floyd is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), teaching in both Visual and Critical Studies and Sculpture. He holds a BFA in Photography from RISD, an MA in Visual & Critical Studies, and an MFA in Sculpture from SAIC. As Exhibitions Director for ACRE, he actively contributes to Chicago's artist-run space community through programs like Ballroom Projects and Adler & Floyd. His work bridges art, theory, and pedagogy, focusing on divergent thinking and participatory cultural practices. He serves as a Lecturer Representative for Part-Time faculty, engaging in faculty governance through Senate committees.
His research interests include the socio-cultural role of architecture, music's intersection with visual studies, and curatorial methodologies in installation art. He teaches courses such as Top: Musicking and Architectural Exploration, emphasizing critical inquiry and collaborative dialogue. Awards include the 2017 Donnelley Curatorial Fellowship. Beyond teaching, Floyd mentors students through thesis tutorials and internship programs, preparing them for professional art-world engagement. His creative practice explores liminal spaces between meaning and nonsense, informed by interdisciplinary reading and listening practices.
Floyd’s academic and curatorial roles are further supported by studio residencies at ACRE, AS220, and Earthbound Moon. He advises on career development through CAPX internship programs, blending professional experience with academic rigor. His work underscores the interplay between art, theory, and community engagement in 21st-century creative practices.
