Patrick Durgin is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), teaching in Visual and Critical Studies, Liberal Arts, Art History, Writing, and Arts Administration. He holds a BA from the University of Iowa (2000), MA and PhD from SUNY Buffalo (2003, 2004). His work bridges poetics, critical theory, art history, and disability studies, with a focus on 20th/21st-century conceptual art and protest literature.
Education includes advanced degrees from SUNY Buffalo, emphasizing interdisciplinary studies. Research interests span visual culture, post-structuralist theory, and intersections of art with social movements. He co-curated the Festival of Poets Theater (2015–2017) and founded Kenning Editions (1998–2024), a press focusing on experimental literature.
Recent publications include works in Bathhouse Journal, Big Other, and Nightboat Books, exploring topics like clairvoyant poetics and conceptual art. He actively participates in international exhibitions and readings, including events in Paris, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Teaching emphasizes risk-taking in creative research and critical analysis, with courses on Deleuze, avant-garde movements, and protest literature. His editorial and curatorial work further amplifies experimental art and literature.
