Danni Yue serves as a Visiting Instructor in the Department of Chinese and Japanese at Grinnell College, specializing in Japanese language pedagogy and acquisition research. Her work examines learner motivation through self-directed practices in Japanese language contexts.
Her academic background includes:
- M.A. in Japanese Applied Linguistics from Waseda University (2023)
- B.A. in Japanese from South-Central University for Nationalities, China (2020)
Research focuses on psycholinguistic mechanisms in language learning, particularly how shadowing, extensive reading, and dictation function as autonomous strategies for Japanese acquisition. Qualitative studies involving learner interviews form the core of her methodology, revealing connections between consistent practice and sustained motivation. This work provides practical frameworks for curriculum development in East Asian language education.
Prior to academia, Yue worked as a trilingual interpreter in Tokyo, bringing practical linguistic experience to her teaching approach. Current responsibilities include instructing Japanese language courses while advancing research on self-directed learning efficacy.
