Danielle R. Bruns serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming, leading the High Altitude Exercise Aging Research Team (HEART Lab) since her 2018 appointment. Her office resides in Science Initiative Building 3210 with laboratory facilities in room 3340.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Human Bioenergetics from Colorado State University (2013)
- MS in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University (2010)
- BS in Exercise Science from Linfield College (2008)
Dr. Bruns investigates physiological and molecular mechanisms of heart disease through studies on diabetic cardiomyopathy, age/sex-specific heart failure, hypoxia-induced muscle dysfunction, and circadian regulation of cardiac function. Her research emphasizes exercise as therapeutic intervention and novel treatment identification for cardiac pathologies, utilizing mouse echocardiography and cellular analysis of cardiac fibroblasts/myocytes.
Professional affiliations encompass the American Heart Association, American Physiological Society, and American Aging Association.
She mentors graduate students enrolled in Zoology & Physiology Masters, Biomedical Sciences doctoral, or Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences doctoral programs, while welcoming motivated undergraduates to the HEART Lab. Current research examines the impact of altitude, aging, and sex on failing cardiac systems through molecular and physiological approaches.
