Dr. Danielle Colenbrander is a Lecturer at the Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy within the Faculty of Education and Arts at Australian Catholic University (ACU). Her research focuses on word reading, spelling, and reading comprehension assessment/instruction, emphasizing vocabulary and morphology roles. She holds a PhD from Macquarie University (2015), followed by postdoctoral roles at the University of Bristol (UK) and Macquarie University, including managing the Macquarie University Centre for Reading.
Dr. Colenbrander actively translates research into practice through professional learning workshops with schools and organizations like the NSW Department of Education and SPELD NSW. She has presented at teacher-focused conferences and podcasts, emphasizing evidence-based literacy strategies. Her work bridges academic research and classroom application, particularly addressing challenges faced by students with learning difficulties.
Key research interests include morphological analysis instruction, vocabulary development, and effective literacy interventions. She has contributed to diagnostic tools like the Diagnostic Spelling Test–Morphology (DiSTm) and explored spaced learning effects on orthographic skills.
