Danielle Colenbrander is an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Psychological Sciences and a member of the Centre for Reading at Macquarie University. Previously, she held positions as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (2015–2018) and Honorary Research Associate (2018–2022) at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on reading development, vocabulary acquisition, and literacy interventions, with an emphasis on morphological instruction and cognitive processes underlying word learning.
Key research interests include how morphological knowledge influences reading comprehension, the role of oral vocabulary in literacy, and the application of evidence-based strategies to improve educational outcomes. She has contributed to projects such as the NSW Equity Consortium and initiatives to develop exemplar reading instruction programs.
Colenbrander has presented at multiple invited talks on topics like vocabulary development and reading interventions, and her work has been featured in media outlets. Her recent publications analyze the effects of morphological instruction on literacy outcomes through meta-analyses and experimental studies.
