Daniel Zimmer is a Lecturer in Civic, Liberal, and Global Education (COLLEGE) at Stanford University. He holds a PhD in Political Thought from Cornell University (2022) and a postdoctoral appointment at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation and the Stanford Existential Risks Initiative. His research bridges political theory, science studies, and existential risks, examining how planet-scale human power reshapes politics through cases like nuclear weapons, climate change, and AI.

Research interests include biopolitics, the Anthropocene, and the ethical implications of existential risks. His book project traces political universalism from Aristotle to the Anthropocene. He teaches interdisciplinary courses such as The Science and Politics of the Apocalypse and Earth, Space, Bits: Contesting the Nature and Future of Humanity.
His articles focus on existential risks, apocalyptic scenarios, and the intersection of science with political philosophy. He collaborates with Stanford’s Existential Risks Initiative and CISAC.
