Daniel Woolf is a Professor and Principal Emeritus at Queen’s University, where he earned his B.A.H. in History (1980) and later returned after completing his D.Phil. at Oxford University (1983). He served as Queen’s 20th Principal and Vice-Chancellor from 2009 to 2019, after which he resumed full-time teaching in the Department of History. His research focuses on historiography, early modern British history, and the global theory of historical writing. Woolf has authored five books and co-edited numerous others, including A Global Encyclopedia of Historical Writing and the Oxford History of Historical Writing.
Key roles include Editor of Cambridge University Press's Elements in Historical Theory and Practice series, board member of Historica Canada, and advisory roles at several journals. His awards include the John Ben Snow Prize (2004), Honorary LLD from Queen’s (2019), and fellowships with the Royal Society of Canada, Society of Antiquaries of London, and Royal Historical Society.
