Daniel S. Shaw is Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on developmental psychopathology and prevention of early conduct problems. His research examines socioecological risk factors in vulnerable children, integrating child, family, and genetic predictors within longitudinal frameworks.
He developed the Family Check-Up intervention model, demonstrating efficacy in reducing conduct problems through motivational interviewing techniques. Current projects investigate tiered prevention approaches and neighborhood deprivation effects on behavioral outcomes.
Honored with the 2023 Provost’s Award for Doctoral Mentoring and the Cairns Award for developmental science contributions, he leads the Parents and Children Laboratory and Center for Parents and Children, facilitating community implementation of evidence-based interventions.
