Senior Lecturer in Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Daniel Rojas specializes in Latin American music traditions, particularly salsa, tango, and Peruvian Andean music. He holds a PhD in composition from the University of Sydney (2010). As Program Leader for multiple music degree programs, Rojas teaches music language, composition, and orchestration. His research explores Indigenous and folk music as compositional resources, blending these with classical forms through improvisation and arrangement.
Notable works include the Piano Concerto No. 1 'The Latin' and the 2021 album Bliss of Heaven: Music of the New World, recorded with the Baldini Quartet. Rojas has collaborated with orchestras globally, including the Melbourne Symphony and Willoughby Symphony. Awards include unspecified composition prizes, with works performed across Australia, Europe, and Latin America. He leads the Orquesta La Luna Tango ensemble and mentors postgraduate researcher May Lyon in composition.
