Daniel McAteer is a DPhil (PhD) student in History at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Wadham College. He holds roles as an Outreach Tutor for the History Faculty, Study Advisor at Wadham College, and coordinator of the Oxford Technology in Society Forum. His research focuses on the intersection of digital technology, free-market ideas, and techno-optimism in late 20th-century America, with a particular interest in the rise of 'tech gurus' and their influence on futurism, management, and globalization.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in History from Pembroke College, Oxford.
- Postgraduate work in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at St Edmund Hall, supported by the Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities.
Research interests span cultural, intellectual, and political history, with a focus on modern North America. His project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Notable awards include the Ertegun Scholarship.
Advising and grants: Supervised by Professors David Priestland and Ralph Schroeder. Actively contributes to outreach initiatives like OxNet, which aims to widen access to higher education for underrepresented groups.
