Dr. Daniel Leightley is a Lecturer in Digital Health Sciences at King’s College London, affiliated with the School of Life Course & Population Sciences and the Department of Population Health Sciences. His research focuses on the intersection of physical and mental health using digital technology, AI, and secondary data. He holds grants from the Forces in Mind Trust, National Institute of Health Research, UK Medical Research Council, and UK Cabinet Office. His work includes military mental health, cyber security, and data governance. Dr. Leightley is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and leads projects like the King’s Centre for Military Health Research, the DrinksRation alcohol intervention app, and the 3S-YP study on youth self-harm and social media use.
He has over 60 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work addressing PTSD, cannabis use among veterans, wearable health data, and alcohol misuse interventions. His research employs remote monitoring technologies and longitudinal cohort studies. Current projects explore AI applications in defence, digital biomarkers for depression, and social media’s role in youth mental health. Dr. Leightley collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and has led grants totaling over £2 million.
