Dr Laura Goodwin is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at Lancaster University's Faculty of Health and Medicine, affiliated with the Health Research Department. Her research focuses on comorbidity of mental health and alcohol use disorders, particularly in trauma-exposed populations such as military veterans. She leads projects funded by MRC, ESRC, and charities, and supports early-career researchers in obtaining grants. External roles include Associate Editor at Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, Psychology co-lead at the Liverpool Centre for Alcohol Research, and Affiliate Member of the ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health at King’s College London.
Her research explores alcohol use in minority ethnic groups, mental health disparities, and interventions for veterans. Key initiatives include the DrinksRation app trial for veterans and the Blue Light project reducing alcohol harms in homeless populations.
