Daniel Laqua is a historian specializing in modern and contemporary Europe, focusing on transnational movements, international organizations, and student activism. He has held multiple leadership roles at Northumbria University, including Head of History, Director of Education for Humanities, and Head of Research and Knowledge Exchange for History. His teaching spans European history from 1919 to the present, emphasizing topics like pacifism, student activism, and international political campaigns. He has been recognized for teaching excellence with a Distinguished Teaching Fellowship and multiple student awards.
His research explores transnational movements, international organizations like the League of Nations, and student activism across borders. Key projects include studies on Belgian internationalism, the history of the Union of International Associations, and global governance. He currently leads a Transatlantic Platform-funded project on trust and democratic engagement in historical and modern contexts.
Laqua has supervised seven PhD theses and co-leads a research network on internationalism.
