Henry Dee is a Research Fellow in History at Northumbria University, focusing on migration history and labor movements. He currently leads the AHRC-DFG funded project 'University Students as Migrants in Western Europe, 1960s-1980s,' collaborating with experts Daniel Laqua, Isabella Löhr, and Lucie Lamy. His research also explores trade unions and migration politics in early 20th century South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar/Burma.
Before joining Northumbria in 2025, Dee held postdoctoral positions at the University of Glasgow (2022–2025) and the University of the Free State (2020–2021). He completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2020. His upcoming book, Militant Migrants: Clements Kadalie and the Mass Movement of Black Workers in Southern Africa, 1896–1951, is set for publication by Liverpool University Press in November 2025.
Dee’s research emphasizes transnational labor networks, colonial and postcolonial migration, and the intersection of race and class in labor movements. His work has been published in journals like Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Safundi, and he contributes to interdisciplinary projects bridging African Studies and global migration history.
