Daniel L. Padierna serves as Assistant Professor of Dance in the Conservatory at Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia, employed since 2020. Padierna's creative scholarship centers on contemporary choreography with emphatic focus on diversity, inclusion, and identity exploration through a queer Latino lens. His work interrogates cultural narratives through collaborations spanning pre-professional dance programs, New York City venues like Bryant Park and 14th Street Y, and跨界 partnerships such as his current role as choreographer for Emmy-winning drag artist Olivia Lux ("RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 13). His pedagogical approach integrates performance practice with social justice frameworks.
His recognition includes:
- MSU Scholarship and Talent Award (2016)
- MSU College of the Arts Dance Education Award (2017)
Through Diversity of Dance, Inc., Padierna mentors emerging artists via the Dancing Beyond Winter Repertory Series, Hearts of Men Workshop Series, and Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts Summer Dance Intensive. His festival commissions for Young Choreographer’s Festival and Jersey (NEW) Moves! Festival demonstrate his commitment to cultivating new choreographic voices, particularly through platforms highlighting underrepresented perspectives in dance.
