Daniel L. Manheim is the H.W. Stodghill, Jr. and Adele H. Stodghill Professor of English at Centre College, where he has taught since 1991. He has held his endowed professorship since 2007 and served as the Creative Thinking Faculty Fellow in 2019-20. His expertise spans American literature, with a focus on Henry Adams, Emily Dickinson, and American autobiography. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Emily Dickinson International Society and edits the EDIS Bulletin.
Education: A.B. from Amherst College; M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Research interests include major American writers, environmental literature, African-American literature, and the modern short story. His work has been published in The New England Quarterly, ESQ, and Literary Imagination.
Prior to Centre College, he was a visiting professor at Bard College and taught at Columbia University and Barnard College.
