Dr. Daniel Krstonošić is an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Department of Wood Technology. He specializes in plant ecology, ornamental herbaceous plants for urban greenery, and vegetation biodiversity research. His work integrates ecological studies with practical applications in landscape architecture and forest management. Professional roles include teaching courses like Botany, Forest Botany, and Systematics of Plants, alongside advising on protected nature areas and allergenic flora.
Research focuses on drought and nutrient stress effects on tree species (common beech, sessile oak), provenance trials, and habitat biodiversity. Notable projects include investigations into phosphorus fertilization impacts on tree physiology and phenotypic plasticity under climate stressors. He has contributed to vegetation ecology studies across Croatia, including analyses of mountain forests (Biokovo), island ecosystems (Murter), and historical landscapes (Crkvišće archaeological site).
Publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, linking plant physiology to environmental management. Over 60 peer-reviewed articles highlight his expertise in forest floor dynamics, invasive species, and eco-architectural design. He collaborates with institutions like the Institute of Wood Science and participates in international conferences such as the Eastern Alpine and Dinaric Society for Vegetation Ecology meetings.
