معرفی
Daniel Ibarra is an Assistant Professor at Brown University, appointed in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences and the Institute at Brown for Environment & Society. His research focuses on terrestrial biogeochemistry and paleoclimatology, using geochemical tracers to study water and carbon cycles in modern and geologic systems.
Dr. Ibarra's research group investigates the water and carbon cycles through the study of modern rivers and catchments, as well as terrestrial geologic records (lakes, soils, caves). Specific projects include quantifying feedbacks in the global carbon cycle, assessing regional hydroclimate changes, and characterizing lithium deposits in lacustrine basins. The group aims to understand Earth system responses to anthropogenic climate change.
Dr. Ibarra actively recruits researchers at multiple levels:
- Undergraduates: Opportunities through SPRINT|UTRA awards and the DEEPS Leadership Alliance REU.
- Graduate students: Typically funded by fellowships (NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, NASA FINESST, DoD NDSEG) and teaching/research assistantships.
- Postdocs: Supported by internal fellowships (Voss, Presidential, STEM) and external fellowships (NSF EAR-PF, NOAA C&GC).
Dr. Ibarra leads the Terrestrial Biogeochemistry and Paleoclimatology lab, which advocates for diversity and inclusion in the geosciences. The lab participates in initiatives like the NSF-funded AGILE project and maintains a public values document to foster a supportive environment.
