معرفی
Daniel Gough is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) at the Centre for Cancer Research, Hudson Institute of Medical Research, affiliated with Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He leads the STAT Cancer Biology laboratory and is actively involved in cancer signaling research, particularly focusing on STAT proteins and their roles in cancer and immunity. He is currently accepting PhD students for several research projects.
Dr. Gough completed his B.Sc (2000) and B.Sc(Hons) (2001) in the Department of Pathology at the University of Melbourne, followed by a Ph.D. (2006) at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He then undertook postdoctoral training at New York University under Professor David E. Levy, where he discovered a mitochondrial and metabolic role for STAT3 relevant to Ras-driven cancers. In 2012, he returned to Australia to establish his independent research laboratory.
His research centers on signal transduction pathways involving STAT proteins, with a strong focus on their dual roles in normal development and oncogenesis. His work spans lung cancer, gastric cancer, osteosarcoma, and pediatric cancers, using mouse models and exploring novel therapeutic strategies. His recent projects include developing therapies for small cell lung cancer and advancing precision medicine in pediatric oncology.
The most recent publications highlight his contributions to understanding STAT3’s mitochondrial functions, profiling childhood cancer cell lines, and investigating ctDNA as a biomarker in lung cancer. His research integrates molecular biology, cancer metabolism, and translational applications.
Daniel Gough has led or contributed to numerous research projects, including those funded by the United States Department of Defense and collaborative programs such as the Hudson-Monash Paediatric Precision Medicine Program. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing health and well-being through cancer research.
- Primary Chief Investigator, Developing new therapies to improve Small Cell Lung Cancer patient outcomes (2020–2024)
- Chief Investigator, Hudson-Monash Paediatric Precision Medicine Program: Phase 2 (2019–2022)

Daniel Gough leads the STAT Cancer Biology laboratory, a research team focused on deciphering oncogenic signaling pathways and developing targeted cancer therapies. The lab collaborates extensively with clinical and research teams across Monash University, Hudson Institute, and international networks, contributing to a robust ecosystem for translational cancer research.
