Daniel Edmondson is a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at York St John University within the School of Education, Language and Psychology, a position he has held since 2022. His academic journey began with a BA(Hons) in English Language from the University of Leeds (2015), followed by an MA (with Distinction) and PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Nottingham (2017 and 2021 respectively).
Dr. Edmondson's research focuses on the intersection of sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, particularly investigating the impact of linguistic reclamation on the cognitive and emotional processing of slur words within the LGBTQ+ community. His interdisciplinary work combines sociolinguistic and sociological theory with psycholinguistic methods including online surveys, lexical decision tasks, and eye-tracking. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate levels on modules related to language and social identity, psycholinguistics, descriptive grammar, and research methods.
His scholarly contributions include publications in Pragmatics & Cognition and Language in Society, with conference presentations at Lavender Languages, BAAL conferences, and the Pint of Science Festival. Dr. Edmondson has engaged with public discourse through talks for organizations like Springer Nature and Pride in STEM, and served as a consultant for VICE UK on LGBTQ+ language issues.

Dr. Edmondson actively contributes to academic governance as a member of the School Quality Panel and Ethics Board, chairs the Language and Linguistics Student Colloquium Committee, and serves as a reviewer for multiple academic journals. His teaching spans language and social identity modules including 'Language and Society', 'Language, Gender and Sexuality', and 'Language, Identities and Cultures', along with psycholinguistics and research methods courses.
