Dr. Daniel B. Coupland is the Dean of the Diana Davis Spencer Graduate School of Classical Education and a Professor of Education at Hillsdale College. He previously served as Dean of Faculty at Hillsdale and began his career as a high school teacher. His academic background includes a B.A. in Spanish (Liberty University, 1994), an M.A. in Linguistics (Oakland University, 1999), and a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy (Michigan State University, 2003).
His research focuses on English grammar pedagogy, classic children’s literature, and classical education methodologies. He co-authored Well-Ordered Language: The Curious Child’s Guide to Grammar (2017) and has taught courses such as English Grammar, Classic Children’s Literature, and Liberal Arts Teacher Apprenticeship. He was honored as Hillsdale College’s Professor of the Year in 2013 and received the Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence in 2017.
