Dr Daniel Bedford is an Associate Professor in Human Rights and Social Care Law at the University of Portsmouth's School of Law (part of the Faculty of Business & Law), and serves as Programme Lead. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an elected member of the Association of Law Teachers' Executive Committee, and webmaster for the Socio-Legal Studies Association Board.

His research focuses on legal protection of human dignity through interdisciplinary methods (philosophy + legal analysis), vulnerability in social care law, and safeguarding decisions under the Mental Capacity Act. Current projects include a British Academy/Leverhulme-funded study on safeguarding adults with relational capacity challenges (collaborating with Royal Holloway & King's College London).
His articles analyze court decisions on safeguarding, mental capacity law reforms, and human dignity in UK democracy. He co-authored the 2022 book Human Dignity and Democracy in Europe.
