Stefan Brown is Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Royal Holloway, University of London, specializing in mental health law, capacity assessments, and dementia care practices. A registered social worker since 1995, his practice experience includes adult social care, forensic mental health, and Best Interests Assessor roles under the Mental Capacity Act.
His research examines decision-making frameworks for people with young-onset dementia, ethnic disparities in mental health services, and inclusive pedagogies in higher education. Current projects focus on socio-economic factors in safeguarding reviews.
Brown leads the Social Work subject area and teaches on the MSc Social Work program, covering mental health policy, disability rights, and anti-racist practice. He co-developed resources for the West London Teaching Partnership on ethnic diversity and student belonging.
He received the 2020 College Team Teaching Commendation for collaborative curriculum innovations promoting inclusion.
