Daniel Béland is a James McGill Professor and Director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC) at McGill University. He holds academic appointments in Political Science and affiliated roles across multiple departments, including Equity, Ethics and Policy, Sociology, and Public Policy. His research focuses on public policy, social policy, political sociology, federalism, and Canadian politics. Béland has held prestigious visiting roles at institutions worldwide, including Humboldt Research Fellowships and senior fellowships at the European University Institute. He has authored over 10 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles, with a Google Scholar citation count exceeding 16,000. His work explores policy feedback mechanisms, institutional change, and the role of ideas in shaping policy outcomes. Béland has received notable awards, including Fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada and the Principal’s Prize for Public Engagement. His research spans global topics such as aging populations, pandemic responses, and fiscal federalism, with a focus on Canada, the U.S., and international contexts.
