Dr. Dan Longboat is an Associate Professor at the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies at Trent University. He is the founding Director of the Indigenous Environmental Science/Studies (IESS) program and acting Director of the Indigenous Environmental Institute (IEI). He holds a B.A. in Native Studies from Trent University and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from York University. His work bridges Indigenous Knowledge systems with Western science, emphasizing bio-cultural restoration and environmental justice.
Longboat’s research focuses on Indigenous environmental philosophy, pedagogy, and the impacts of colonialism. He co-founded the TRACKS program, which integrates Indigenous Knowledge with science education for youth, and the award-winning Indigenous Environmental Institute. He actively collaborates with Indigenous communities, Elders, and institutions to promote sustainability and cultural resurgence.
