Dr. Dan Cleather is a Professor of Strength and Conditioning at St Mary's University, serving as Programme Director for the MSc Strength and Conditioning. Previously, he spent six years at the English Institute of Sport coaching athletics, rowing, fencing, and rugby. He holds a Master’s in Kinesiology from California State University Long Beach and a PhD in Bioengineering from Imperial College London. His research spans musculoskeletal mechanics, strength training methodologies, space exercise countermeasures, and philosophy of science. He is Finance Director for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and affiliated with the Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education (IGDORE). His books include Force: The Biomechanics of Training and Subvert!: A Philosophical Guide for the 21st Century Scientist.

He actively mentors PhD students in strength and conditioning or biomechanics. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based practices, with a focus on translating complex scientific principles into accessible coaching tools.
