Professor Dan Charman serves as Senior Vice-President and Provost at the University of Exeter, acting as deputy to the President and Vice-Chancellor while providing strategic leadership for the university's corporate plan and institutional strategies. Previously, he held the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy and the College of Life and Environmental Sciences.
His research focuses on Earth system science with specialized expertise in long-term ecosystem and climate change dynamics, particularly in wetland environments. This work integrates physical geography, environmental geoscience, and ecological principles to address critical sustainability challenges. His research directly contributes to climate action (SDG 13), marine conservation (SDG 14), and terrestrial biodiversity preservation (SDG 15), emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental management and climate adaptation strategies.
Professor Charman is actively associated with the Exeter Marine research network and broader Exeter Research Networks, fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations to advance understanding of environmental systems and develop practical solutions for global sustainability challenges.
